High quality U-shaped lock: This is the cornerstone of anti-theft. Choose well-known brands such as Kryptonite, Abus, Oxford, with a sturdy lock rod (at least 16mm or more) and a sturdy material (hardened steel), and obtain the Solder Secure certification (silver or gold is preferred). Lock the frame or rear rocker arm together with fixed objects (such as ground anchors, sturdy railings) during use. Simply locking the wheels is not enough (the wheels can be quickly disassembled).
Disc brake lock: compact and portable, easy to use. Choose a model with vibration alarm function. Be sure to use the reminder rope/disc brake lock reminder in conjunction! Otherwise, it is extremely easy to forget to unlock and damage the brake discs and calipers.
Chain lock: High flexibility, can be locked onto large fixed objects (such as utility poles, dedicated ground anchors). Choose a chain lock of the same quality as the U-shaped lock (thick chain, hard steel, good lock core). The thicker and longer the chain, the harder it is to break, but it is also heavier.
Principles for using locks:
The principle of “multiple locking”: at least two different types of locks (such as U-shaped lock+disc brake lock) should be used simultaneously to increase the difficulty and time for thieves to crack.
Locked on a fixed object: Only locking the motorcycle itself (such as only locking the front wheels) can easily be lifted away. Be sure to lock the car with a sturdy object that cannot be moved.
Lock the frame: Prioritize locking the frame or rear rocker arm, which are stronger and more difficult to disassemble than the wheels.
Ground clearance: Ensure that the lock does not touch the ground as much as possible to prevent thieves from using the ground as a fulcrum for damage.
Avoid exposing locks: If possible, make the lock eyes face downwards or towards the vehicle body to increase the difficulty of thieves using violent tools such as hammers and angle grinders to break them.
There is no 100% anti-theft, but the goal is to minimize the risk – making thieves feel that stealing your car is too time-consuming, too troublesome, and too risky, and instead searching for easier targets. By combining these measures, your motorcycle safety will be greatly improved.
